The library remains a location non grata for Rache. On the other hand, Bar is rather skilled at book recommendations and the couches down here are every bit as comfortable.

Tonight, she has a copy of Persuasion and a mug of (lightly spiked) apple cider. Based on the way she pauses every few chapters to take a drink and watch the crowd, she might not be adverse to company.

She licks into his mouth, light and teasing.

He slides his hands up under her shirt to feel the texture of her skin.

She shivers, ticklish, and laughs softly.

He grins.

"You're lovely," he informs her. "Ever and always lovely."

"And not immune to flattery."

"Of course not. Your vanity is part of your loveliness."

"Precisely."

She kisses him, quick but hard.

"It's so nice to have someone who understands these things."

"I am delighted to hear it," he says gravely, smiling against her lips as his fingers slide up the curve of her spine.

She sighs, contented, and arches subtly into the touch.

"I missed you, too," he murmurs.

Rache goes still in his arms.

She flashes hot and cold, deeper than a blush, all the way to her heart.

It's a simple thing to say, but it sounds like something rare and precious coming from him.

"Oh."

She kisses him again, slower this time, deep and thankful.

He closes his eyes; his hands emerge from under her shirt to wrap around her in a hug.

She clings tightly back, the kiss becoming softer and lighter by degrees.

"The bed, I think," he murmurs at last.

"I want to learn you all over again."

"I would be pleased to instruct you."

She guides them both over to the edge of the bed, where she takes a seat lightly on the very edge.

He straddles her lap and kisses her, much as he would have before.

She slips her hands up beneath his shirt, curling them around his waist.

"Delightful," he murmurs, shivering pleasantly.

She hums back, pleased, and walks her nails up the sides of his ribcage.

He giggles.

"Something amusing?" she whispers, lips brushing his.

"I am," Strat confesses, "a tiny bit ticklish at times."

"Oh really?"

Rache walks her nails back down, to see if that elicits the same response.
